As pioneers in the development of Open Access, we continue to help you share your important research.

We started out 180 years ago as a general medical journal, publishing our first research paper on the treatment of squinting.

Now, as a global brand with a worldwide audience, we help medical organizations and clinicians tackle today’s most critical healthcare challenges. We do this by publishing the newest, cutting edge academic research, providing professional development solutions and creating clinical decision support tools.

Our expertise extends from publishing and medical education to clinical decision support and quality improvement to enhance day to day decision-making and healthcare delivery.

We have in-house teams of clinical writers, editors, health economists and information specialists who - together with a unique network of experts in the field - enable us to continuously adapt our capabilities to help individuals and organizations deliver high-quality, safe and affordable healthcare.

Evidence: Underpins everything we do – it’s what makes us one of the world’s most trusted knowledge providers.

Publishing: At the forefront of innovative healthcare thinking, The BMJ is one of the world’s top four most cited general medical journals with an impact factor of 27.604. We also offer more than 70 peer-reviewed specialist journals across a range of medical and allied science fields and we are leaders in digital publishing and Open Access.

Decision support: Quick, accurate, concise, evidence-based answers to clinical questions, plus access to the latest research and guidelines – all built into the clinician’s workflow.

Medical education: Tailored resources to help clinicians identify learning needs and keep up with the latest evidence, guidelines and best practice.

Application aided by technology: Integrated digital and mobile solutions to improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.

Health knowledge: Jargon-free, evidence-based resources developed for health professionals and patients alike.

Quality improvement: We help clinicians share new research and measurable improvement methodology and outcomes, through our journals, BMJ Open Quality and BMJ Quality & Safety.

As a values-driven company, we work with the vision for 'a healthier world'.

The BMJ‘s patient partnership strategy, launched in 2014, introduced innovative internal editorial changes aimed at making patient partnership integral to the way the journal works and thinks. We did this because we see partnering with patients, their carers, community support networks, and the public as an ethical imperative essential to improving the quality, safety, value, and sustainability of health systems.

The Patient and Public Partnerships initiative was drawn up with and continues to be informed by a dedicated international patient advisory panel.

We work with you to fit the needs of your local healthcare systems.

Beyond publishing, our offering expands toward medical education and the wider application of knowledge at the point of care

BMJ Best Practice ranked equal first for breadth of disease coverage, editorial quality, and evidence-based methodology. The independent review of clinical decision support tools is published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

We rely on our long-standing relationships with large healthcare organizations, clinicians, global health and government bodies around the world. This strong international client base means we can improve healthcare through cross-country knowledge sharing and data comparisons.

“As the rise in chronic diseases and ageing populations burdens healthcare systems, we continue to develop necessary tools and resources to support the ever-increasing demands on multidisciplinary care.”

Our core objective remains unchanged. We continue to support medical professionals and organizations around the globe.
