New Editor-in-Chief for BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine journal

Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine.

The open access journal covers all aspects of sport and exercise medicine as well as associated areas such as epidemiology, chronic disease prevention through exercise and physical activity, exercise and physical activity physiology, and measurement.

BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine is co-owned by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) and is a sister journal to the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Based in Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre, Professor Stamatakis has a background in sports and exercise science and physical activity epidemiology, and is currently a Professor of Physical Activity, Lifestyle, and Population Health and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Research Fellow at the University of Sydney.

Professor Stamatakis is also an Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Professor Stamatakis says: "Quality open access journals have a big role to play in today’s fast-changing publishing landscape; I am very excited to take on this role and look forward to working with the rest of the editorial team, BASEM and BMJ to deliver on our mission of publishing timely and good quality review with rapid dissemination and helping practitioners to provide the best care for their patients.”
