Professor Yu-Chuan (Jack) Li is a researcher in AI in medicine and medical informatics.

Professor Yu-Chuan (Jack) Li, a researcher of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and medical informatics, and a practising dermatologist, has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Health & Care Informatics, one of more than 70 specialist journals published by BMJ.

Professor Li, who succeeds Dr Philip Scott as Editor in Chief, is currently Dean and distinguished professor at the College of Medical Science and Technology, Taipei Medical University and the Chief of Dermatology at the Centre for Cosmetic and Laser, Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital.

He has worked on many national and international projects related to translational biomedical informatics, with the aim of developing the next generation of medical Al for patient safety and disease prevention.

Professor Li has also served as President of the Asia-Pacific Association for Medical Informatics (APAMI), and President-elect of International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). He was elected as a fellow of the Australian College of Health Informatics and the American College of Medical Informatics in 2010, and was most recently elected as a fellow of the International Academy of Health Science Informatics.

Professor Li said: “It is an honor and a challenge to become the Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Health & Care Informatics. As technology progresses, the science of healthcare quality has also evolved through the integration of information technology, and it has brought the applications of informatics to clinical practice into focus. The mission is to bring together the academician, researchers and health care practitioner communities to support health care improvements through innovations. Therefore, BMJ Health & Care Informatics is an ideal journal that supports improvements in direct health and care service provision, by incorporating the public health strategies and interventions, implementation of learning health systems and national policy issues.”

Responding to the appointment, Dr Allison Lang, Publishing Director at BMJ, said: ““As the new Editor-in-Chief, Professor Li brings a wealth of experience and passion to the team, and we are confident that he will continue to enhance the journal’s reputation for publishing high quality health informatics research into the future.”
