BMJ Best Practice is available across the Republic of Ireland for the third year running

March 2023-- Following the success of our partnership, we are delighted to announce that Health Library Ireland (HLI) has extended their national subscription to BMJ Best Practice for the third year running, to provide clinical and patient education information to everyone in the Republic of Ireland, including Health Service Executive (HSE) healthcare professionals.

BMJ Best Practice gives healthcare professionals fast and easy access to the latest information when making diagnosis and treatment decisions. Updated daily, it draws on the latest evidence-based research, guidelines and expert opinion to offer step-by-step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention.

The comorbidities manager within BMJ Best Practice supports the management of the whole patient by including guidance on treating a patient’s acute condition alongside their pre-existing comorbidities.

HLI provides access to BMJ Best Practice as a practical clinical support tool to help all healthcare professionals meet the changing and more complex needs of patients, and maximise their resources, resulting in better care and improving outcomes for patients.

With over 1.5M BMJ Best Practice page impressions (web and app) in 2022, we hope this next year of partnership brings even more success and a greater positive impact on patient care.

Dr Conor Malone, Registrar in Informatics at St James’s Hospital in Dublin said: “Regardless of the area I'm working in, BMJ Best Practice helps me to structure my approach to a patient’s problem – the history-taking, the examination and diagnostics. The tool is like a living text that is constantly updated and contains the latest evidence and guidelines. Using the links to further reading, I can review in more detail information and data from Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world. To have all this information summarised in one place is very useful.”

Mr Bernard Gloster, CEO at HSE said:“HSE Health Library Ireland are providing evidence-based research to support patient and service user care. This resource gives Irish health professionals a tool to provide optimum care, irrespective of where they live.”

Louise Crowe, Director of Knowledge at BMJ said: “We are delighted that healthcare professionals in Ireland will continue to use BMJ Best Practice at the point of care. The comorbidities manager within BMJ Best Practice supports the management of the whole patient. In a recent study, 97% of users said it improved their practice. Our vision is to help create a healthier world, and it is fantastic to see BMJ Best Practice positively impacting clinical decisions and patient outcomes."

All HSE healthcare professionals can use BMJ Best Practice.
