Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to access BMJ content remotely.
With more of our readers working or studying remotely, we want to ensure fast access to the latest original research, opinion, and educational content they would have within your institution.
If your institution uses OpenAthens, we simply require your Org ID in order to configure access via single sign-on. End-users can then access the information needed whether they are located within their organization or working off-site (including via mobile devices). When accessing content directly from our site - users need to select ‘Log in via OpenAthens’ from the login dropdown.
If your institution has federated access via Shibboleth we simply require you to confirm your scope in order to enable access. When accessing content directly from our site - users need to select ‘Log in via institution’ from the login dropdown and select their federation, before then selecting their institution and then using their federated credentials. We currently enable access to the following country federations:
If your country federation is not listed, then please let us know and we can discuss implementation.
Links to our sites that are included with your subscription are added to a page that sits behind a member login or is only accessible only via your intranet. In both cases, this must be a secure URL. When the user clicks on that link, we provide access based on having navigated from the ‘members-only’ page.
Virtual Private Network (VPN):
A virtual private network, or VPN, is an encrypted connection over the Internet from a device to a network. This enables researchers to join their institution’s network when working remotely and gain IP access to our websites.
Secure Proxy Server:
Proxy servers can be set up via IP address to allow users access to BMJ content. The proxy must require authentication to restrict it to authorized users only. Just provide us with your proxy server IP and we will add it to your account.
