LOCUM Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at The Royal London Hospital, BARTS HEALTH NHS TRUST

The Department of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology at the Royal London Children’s Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, is seeking to appoint a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist (10 PAs) on an initial 12 month contract. This is a new locum post developed to support  the growing service and multidisciplinary team which currently consists of one paediatrician with special interest, three haematologists/paediatric haematologists, three paediatric oncology nurse specialists and two paediatric haematology nurse specialists based at the Royal London Hospital. Additionally the post holder will support development and delivery of care of paediatric haematology at Whipps Cross Hospital together with the three haematologists/paediatric haematologists and nurse specialists based at this site.


The post is predominantly based at the Royal London Children’s Hospital located within the recently rebuilt Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London.  The service at The Royal London Hospital serves a diverse population with the busiest paediatric ED in London.  The team are designated as the regional paediatric oncology hub as well as the specialist centre for haemoglobinopathies within the East London and Essex.  


The post holder will we expected to provide additional support to the team at Whipps Cross Hospital (currently level 1 POSCU and Local Haemoglobinopathy Team (LHT)). The post holder will participate in an attending rota covering the haematology and oncology inpatients based at the Royal London Hospital will be expected to participate in a paediatric haematology non-resident on call rota (1:4).


Applicants are expected to be on the specialist Register or within 6 months of receiving their CCT at the time of interview for UK trainees within an approved training post; with GMC registration with a licence to practice. Applicants are strongly advised to arrange a visit to the Children’s Hospital to discuss the post with members of the clinical teams.
