Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care Transport (CATS) at GOSH and Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care at King's College Hospital
We are seeking a full-time Consultant with an interest in Paediatric Intensive Care Transport and Paediatric Intensive Care.
The Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS) is a collaborative regional critical care transport service based at Great Ormond Street NHS Foundation Trust, and is designed to make intensive care rapidly available to critically ill children in the North Thames and East Anglia regions.
The service provides 24 hour, 365 day, Consultant led telephone advice and a triaging facility for all referrals and is committed to improving and developing the provision of critical care and critical care transport for all patients within its scope of care. The CATS service remains the busiest dedicated paediatric intensive care (PIC) transfer service in the UK, handling over 2200 referrals and undertaking over 1200 intensive care transports a year.
You will be joining a friendly and dynamic team and this post offers the opportunity to develop an interest in education, training and research.
The successful candidate will have had at least two years specialist paediatric intensive care training and specific experience in paediatric transport. The post will be primarily in paediatric intensive care transport.
All applicants for consultant posts must either be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT award at the time of applying.
The indicative basic salary range for this post is £79,860 to £107,668 per annum plus £2,162 per annum London Weighting.

You will have continuing experience in paediatric intensive care at Kings College Hospital. King’s College Hospital is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in London. The Variety Children's Hospital contains four wards, an 8-bedded paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and a day case unit.
King’s College is the regional centre for paediatric neurosurgery and sickle cell anaemia, and a supra-regional referral centre for Paediatric Hepatology. In addition to liver transplantation, the Critical Care Centre cares for patients with bowel transplantation. The unit caters for local admissions from a busy paediatric A&E department and the Variety Club Children Hospital wards at King’s. The new Children’s Critical Care Centre, incorporating 8 PICU beds and 8 HDU beds was opened in June 2008. Overall there are approximately 700 critical care admissions per year.
