Applications are invited for a Consultant Dermatologist, with an interest in skin cancer and skin surgery, to join a team of 8 Consultant Dermatologists based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, South Wales.
This is a new post to meet increased demand and provides an opportunity to join an enthusiastic and forward thinking department. Lesion patients are treated at one stop hospital clinics at 4 sites across the Health Board. There is a well established teledermatology/teledermoscopy service supported by a network of GP’s undertaking extended skin surgery in the community and Consultant day-case sessions for more complex cases. The service has strong links with colleagues in Plastic Surgery and Maxillo Facial. Consultants may have the opportunity to undertake Mohs surgery in Cardiff and there are plans to develop Mohs surgery in Newport. Consultant clinics are supported by 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists for skin cancer and several experienced specialty doctors.
There are 3 SPAs in the job plan and no requirement for on call. The Department has an effective team approach facilitated by weekly meetings and is keen to help new colleagues pursue their career interests as they develop experience within their chosen field. We also participate in the South Wales Dermatology specialist training programme.
Newport is ideally situated on the South Wales coast with the potential to commute from the cities of Cardiff and Bristol or to settle in the nearby characteristic market towns and rural areas. It is surrounded by some of the most breath-taking scenery in the UK, with the sea to the south and the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains to the north. South-East Wales is a thriving and cosmopolitan location. Some of the best schools in the country are located in this region and housing costs are significantly lower than in other parts of the country.
Gwent is dissected by the M4 corridor – and with the removal of the tolls to cross the Severn Bridge it has never been more accessible.
The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month normal sabbaticals through an annual application process.
Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.
