Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The appointed candidate will join the already existing team of 10 General EM Consultants.

This is a new post. The appointed candidate will join the already existing team of 10 general EM Consultants. The appointee will participate in a bespoke Paediatric ED rota and will be encouraged to develop as a leader of the Paediatric Emergency Department.  We have a separate Paediatric Assessment Unit run by the Acute General Paediatricians. The successful candidate will be expected to drive a joint approach between the Paediatric ED and the PAU, and work closely with both the EM Consultants and the Paediatricians. The department saw over 89,000 new patients last year; of which approximately 18,000 were paediatric.

It is intended that the new Consultant will: 

  • With other colleagues enable senior input into patients journey through the ED enhancing quality and Consultant ‘sign off’
  • Maintain the hours of availability of immediate Consultant opinion
  •  Enhance the reputation of the department through multi-disciplinary education & training and research
  • Provide leadership to the Paediatric Emergency Department
