Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia
Based at Worthing Hospital
Applications are invited for the above post of Consultant in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine, at Worthing Hospital, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
We wish to recruit an individual with a specific interest in Intensive Care Medicine to support the department in maintaining the quality of anaesthetic and intensive care services throughout the Trust. The post will be replacing a current ICM consultant.
The Critical Care Unit at Worthing Hospital has 6 ITU and 6 HDU beds. The Trust has recently committed to a multi-million pound investment to design and build a new critical care unit at Worthing Hospital, incorporating the Level 1 Enhanced Surgical Care Unit.
The successful applicant will join the dedicated Intensive Care Consultant rota, acting as Consultant of the Week (Mon-Fri) with a separate weekend on call (Fri-Mon) on a rolling 1 in 9 pattern. This on call is supported by a dedicated ICU trainee out of hours. There is excellent support from a range of multidisciplinary services including daily ward round input from microbiology, pharmacy, and physiotherapy amongst others. There are weekly consultant outreach sessions in place with a view to expanding this service, and a 7-day nurse outreach service closely incorporated into the ICU team.
The successful candidate will be expected to possess broad experience in all aspects of general intensive care and anaesthesia and must be prepared to participate in audit, teaching, research and the continued development of the service. The team benefits from an active journal club and weekly ICU teaching programme.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview. Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.
