Respiratory Unit

To commence as soon as possible 12 month Fixed Term Contract with possible extension.

Applications are invited for the above post for paediatric respiratory fellows to join the respiratory unit at GOSH. The posts have areas of specific expertise in which the postholders will gain experience and training but also allow exposure and service delivery to the wider respiratory unit at GOSH.

The GOSH Respiratory Service is one of the largest tertiary and quaternary referral units for complex lung disease in the UK. There is a busy inpatient and outpatient service with weekly clinics for asthma, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, non-invasive ventilation and complex lung disease.

There are established teams caring for children with sleep disorders, long term ventilation, CF, pulmonary hypertension, lung transplantation, tracheal surgery, non-invasive ventilation, rare and chronic respiratory disorders. There is close liaison with the intensive care units, cardiology, spinal surgery and the neuromuscular teams.

Clinical duties for the respiratory fellows include a clear focus on the nominated area of subspecialty as well as input to the general running of the respiratory unit: including in-patient management, respiratory referrals from within GOSH and respiratory out-patient clinics. Most of our fellows stay with us for more than 12 months and rotate through to a different fellow role within our department, these include posts in CF, sleep medicine, and long-term ventilation.

These posts are designed for paediatric trainees who wish to subspecialise in paediatric respiratory medicine; docotrs already part way through training in the subspecialty; and doctors at the end of their training in the subspecialty who wish to gain additional experience prior to taking up a consultant post.

Applicants must have MRCPCH or equivalent and be fully registered with the General Medical Council. Some experience or knowledge of paediatric respiratory medicine is helpful. The post provides ample opportunity for training and well-supervised, high quality research. The post is EWTD compliant. The post is fixed term till March 20209 in the first instance, with opportunity to extend the contract and/or rotate between Fellows’ posts when appropriate and subject to appraisal and vacancies.

All applicants should return their application forms electronically via NHS Jobs. If you are experiencing any technical difficulties, please email: vacancy@gosh.nhs.uk, quoting the appropriate Job Reference Number.
