The Thoracic Oncology service in Cambridge is one of the largest such services in the UK operating as a joint service between Royal Papworth Hospital and Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke’s Hospital).

Applications are invited for two substantive consultant posts, one within the Thoracic Oncology team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the other within the Thoracic Oncology team at Royal Papworth Hospital.

The post within Addenbrooke’s Hospital will have a focus on delivery of care to patients referred on the lung cancer two-week wait pathway as well as in-patient care to thoracic oncology patients. The post holder will also support the Pleural Disease Service and have some commitment to general
respiratory medicine.

The Thoracic Oncology Service at Royal Papworth is a tertiary referral service currently investigating 1400 patients per annum referred from regional hospitals. At Papworth, the focus is on diagnosis and staging of patients with suspected malignancy along with pre and post-operative care of surgical patients. This post has a significant commitment to further developing research within the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre Aerodigestive progamme.

Both post holders will work within a multidisciplinary team including other Respiratory Physicians, Oncologists, Pathologists, Thoracic Surgeons, Radiologists, Palliative Care, Clinical Nurse Specialists and administrative staff to provide comprehensive care to patients with suspected or confirmed
thoracic malignancy. While post holders will be predominantly placed in their hosting hospital, some activities will be undertaken in the other on a service level agreement.

Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching, research and continuous professional development appropriate to leading teaching hospitals. There are excellent academic links with the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals Departments of Respiratory Medicine and Oncology and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Cancer Centre. Outstanding opportunities exist for research and teaching.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and must possess the MRCP, a higher degree (PhD or MD) and have a CCT in Respiratory Medicine, or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of the interview.
