Job Details

We are seeking 2 Locum Consultants to join our OUTSTANDING Trust in our Anaesthesia department.

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Anaesthesia.  This new appointment affords an exciting opportunity to join a busy, innovative, developing and expanding anaesthetic department.

The anaesthetic team currently has 40 consultants, supported by an associate specialist, 4 speciality grade doctors, and 15 specialist trainees.

These posts are full time appointments (10 PAs) with 9 PAs of Direct Clinical Care including 1 PA for Supporting Professional Activity.

The Department provides anaesthetic services for elective surgery in: General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Burns Surgery, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery and Gynaecology.

It also provides emergency anaesthetic cover for these services on a 24 – hour basis. There are presently 14 orthopaedic trauma lists, 10 daytime plastic surgery trauma lists, and 10 daytime sessions available primarily for urgent general surgical and emergency cases. There are also all day orthopaedic trauma lists on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

The Department also provides a 24 – hour epidural service for analgesia during labour, and a 24 – hour anaesthetic service for obstetric emergencies including caesarean sections.

Additional functions of the Department include the running of a Consultant based Chronic Pain Service, an Acute Pain Service, support for the major trauma team, and ad hoc assistance to the ITU and HDU when requested.

Here, you’ll work in purpose built, state of the art facilities. You’ll help us build on our excellent reputation for delivering high quality patient care and you’ll be instrumental in enhancing our capacity to deliver world-class Anaesthetic Services. You’ll be glad you chose to join our team.

This post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS (with barred list for vulnerable adult’s and children’s disclosure).

Due to the short term nature of the role and service demand, the successful candidate must hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of the application. Candidates who are not GMC registered will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.
