General Practitioners at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham
These are new roles with full time/part-time/flexible working options available.
We are looking to expand our innovative primary care team in both size and scope. An important element of the role will be to work closely with the Emergency Department to care for the 15% of patients presenting with primary care needs.
But this is far more than a traditional ‘GP streaming’ role. As we provide the full range of adult and paediatric tertiary care, there will be opportunities to develop special interests and to work far more closely with clinical specialties than is the case in traditional primary care.
These roles will also provide flexibility in working patterns. We are looking for GPs who can work full or part-time hours that may include evening/ weekends and shift working as part of a rota or an agreed pattern. The posts will be initially based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham but could require work at any of the Trust’s locations and in time home working/video conferencing will allow for a far more flexible work/life balance than has been the case.
In addition, we are partnering with local GP practices so that our GPs will have the opportunity to do some shifts and training in more traditional primary care settings, and they can gain a full breadth of experience.
The Trust’s approach is an innovative collaboration working with the CCG to lead new ways of working and the successful post holder will be instrumental in helping to design and develop the future service. As part of this, UHB is implementing a digital symptom checker, driven by a major commitment to Artificial Intelligence, and will move to video conferencing, where appropriate, to assist the early diagnosis and treatment of patients. This could enable a move to home working where feasible and/or desirable by GPs.
Basic salary will be within the national salaried GP range of £60,000 - £88,744 wte with additional supplements for on-call, evening and weekend working (up to 25% of basic).
