Consultant Orthogeriatrician/Surgical Liaison Post
This is a new post within Orthogeriatrics and an exciting time expanding the service into Surgical Liaison giving the opportunity for the successful candidate to help shape and develop this service. The aim is to meet the criteria stated in The National Emergency laparotomy Audit (NELA). This post will also aid the further development of services to older people and complimenting our Acute Frailty and Re-enablement Services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will bring their skills, knowledge and drive to our existing teams in the continued development of the department. This is a 10 PA post with opportunities to become involved and participate in either specialist interests and/or non-clinical activities such as Qi (Quality Improvement).

The wider Geriatric Department has physicians with special interest in falls, Parkinson’s disease, frailty and syncope, continence, and research (with links to the University of Sheffield). We have Specialist nurses in Continence promotion and Falls to promote this.
You will receive mentoring and support for this role and it is envisaged there will be regular feedback meetings. The successful applicant will participate in the unselected medical take with a frequency of approximately 1:4 weeks (midweek) and 1:8 weeks (weekends) with a mandatory rest day for weekend working (on the Monday immediately post on call weekend). Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching will be expected, the College Tutor is a member of the CSU and the Trust has a good record in getting candidates through PACES.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining Specialist Registration/CCT at the time of interview. Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.
Funding is available for up to full-time working, although candidates who are available part-time are also encouraged to apply. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
