An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop and expand the renal services in the county of Worcestershire. Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust invites applications for a Consultant post in Renal and General Medicine. We are seeking, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultants to join and strengthen the existing Renal Medicine team.  Applicants with additional subspecialty training will be welcome, and the Division of Medicine will be as flexible as possible to accommodate specialist expertise within the relevant departments, subject to individual discussion. 

It is envisaged that this post will provide an excellent opportunity to significantly build on the existing service in nephrology. The post holders will primarily be based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Worcester with sessions at the other Worcestershire Acute Hospital sites.

The post-holder will be expected to provide general medical and renal services to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings.  The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care.  The Trust has three acute sites with clinics at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital Treatment Centre and the Alexandra Hospital. It is anticipated the successful candidate will work as part of the team of renal consultants across Worcestershire (Worcestershire Royal Hospital as the main base, with outreach to Kidderminster, Redditch, Evesham) to enable greater patient access. The post holders will have an allocated secretarial assistant from within the department of Nephrology.

As a district general hospital, there are close links with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (QEHB) and University Hospital Coventry as tertiary centres for specialised care for renal, neurosurgery etc. For renal there are well established links with QEHB. There will be opportunities to develop new renal services in the department and to support a specialist interest of the successful candidate. There is also a monthly renal education meeting in Worcester.

The post-holder will participate in the on-call rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally with Consultant colleagues in post.  The Trust encourages post holders to accumulate their CME both nationally and internationally.

Essential requirements include entry on the specialist register in Nephrology (or entry expected within 6 months from date of interview) and clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCST in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine. Applicants should hold full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise.
