This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated surgeon to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care both from the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (STHK).

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate looking to progress their career in plastic and reconstructive surgery and develop an enviable research portfolio possibly towards attaining a higher degree.

By the end of their post the successful candidate can expect to have an enviable academic CV and clinical logbook limited only by their level of ambition.

This post will provide the successful applicant with especially good exposure to Burns in a busy Regional Burns Centre with a catchment area of over 6 million in population, and in a department which has an international reputation in publishing including journal editorships and a number of key textbooks. The role provides numerous opportunities for a successful candidate to enhance their research, leadership and clinical skills as well as clinical exposure to a range of other areas including plastic and reconstructive surgery, prosthetics, paediatrics and lasers. The Burns and Plastic surgery directorate is amongst the largest in the UK with 23 Consultant Plastic Surgeons. The primary research element will focus on burns infection, with numerous secondary project opportunities. The clinical element will involve the full range of clinical, outpatient and operative experience.

The appointee will be employed as a Clinical Research Fellow with an on-call commitment and this post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 2 years, 60% clinical, 40% research.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join this busy department which consists of 23 Consultants, 12 specialist registrars, 3 senior clinical fellow posts, 1 associate specialist, 4 SAS grades, 1 breast fellow, 1 hand fellow, 4 core trainees, 1 F2 and 4 clinical fellow posts.

This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure with both children’s and adults’ barred lists.

The successful candidate will be expected to have full Registration with the GMC at the time of appointment. Candidates without GMC will progress if shortlisted for interview, though will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment.
