Wirral has two of Britain’s most famous rivers, the Mersey and the Dee, running along its Eastern and Western coastline. 

Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic individual to appoint as a full-time Consultant in Medical Microbiology at 10 PAs. The successful candidate will work with a team of three other consultants to provide a clinically orientated Microbiology service for Arrowe Park Hospital, Clatterbridge Hospital, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Wirral Primary Care. 

The post holder will be based at Arrowe Park Hospital where the inpatient wards are located. The diagnostic laboratory is Chester and Wirral Microbiology Service (CWMS) and is jointly owned by WUTH and Countess of Chester NHS Trust. It is located in Bromborough, Wirral. 

The successful applicant will be expected to develop sub-speciality interests to complement those of the existing consultants. On-call is part of the job requirement being a 1:3 for Infection Control at WUTH and 1:8 for medical microbiology covering three Trusts. 

Candidates for the post must hold Full and Specialist registration (and with a current license to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT. It is expected that the appointee will hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination or show evidence of equivalent training and experience.
