We currently have the following FTE available in our Mental Health Services within Dunedin and based in Waitaki Community Mental Health Service (based in Oamaru, a rural service, 75 minutes north of Dunedin).

Please choose from the following: Community Mental Health Team 0.2FTE; Acute Inpatient (0.5FTE)team; our Clinical Rehab Service (0.5FTE); Waitaki Community Mental Health Service (0.1FTE); Emergency Psychiatric Service (0.2FTE).

About the departments

Responsibilities in the Adult Community Mental Health teams including our Rural teams involve the assessment and treatment formulation while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) and engaging with the wider mental health and addictions sector.

Our Clinical Rehab Service (Ward 11), an Inpatient Mental Health rehabilitation/sub-acute setting based at Wakari Hospital, Dunedin, for adults who have a long term mental illness and co-existing problems, working with those on their mental health recovery journey.

Waitaki Community Mental Health Service is Multi-Disciplinary team that services the North Otago District (pop. 23,000). It provides support to Child and Youth, Alcohol and Drug, Adult and Elderly services. This is a well-established team responsible for delivering services to people with moderate to severe mental illness in North Otago.

Our 16 bed open plan Acute Inpatient ward, provides care for the full range of general adult mental health disorders, including youth, mothers and babies, and eating disorders. Here you will work alongside experienced clinical staff and become an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

Our Emergency Psychiatric Service provides around the clock urgent assessments and interventions for consumers of all ages. A mobile service you will use consumer assessments to establish acuity and decide on further treatments or interventions.

About you

As a Consultant Psychiatrist with previous general adult experience in either an inpatient or community setting. You will have a personal commitment to maintaining high standards of practice and an unequivocal dedication to working as part of a team. Your ability to provide clinical leadership and reliable medical input to the multi-disciplinary team is pivotal to the position. You will have a strong commitment to service user and family / whanau inclusion in service delivery and a focus on recovery.You will also have a sound understanding and commitment to biculturalism.You will have a demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and providing training to students at all levels.

You will be required to participate on an on call roster providing after hours coverage for the Otago part of the wider Southern DHB district. Fellowship with the RANZCP or equivalent is essential and you must be eligible for registration with the NZ Medical Council.
