Associate Specialists in Anaesthesia

Opportunities have arisen for two Associate Specialists to join a vibrant, cohesive, forward thinking department in the beautiful South West England offering outstanding work life balance. The posts can flexibly offer a variety of subspecialty clinical interests. Our SAS team are highly valued and we actively support career development such as working towards CESR accreditation and appointment to departmental non-clinical roles in an equitable fashion. Our department is extremely friendly and supportive. The Trust has an active education/networking programme locally and regionally for Specialty doctors and Associate Specialists.

We support a number of region-wide services and thus have excellent subspecialty opportunities in vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, spinal surgery, paediatrics and are currently developing a premier perioperative medicine service. In addition to this, we work with excellent surgical colleagues to provide high quality services for most other district general specialties.

Staff are rightly proud of our CQC ‘Caring - Outstanding’ rating and we have a dedicated and very active hospital Quality Improvement Team. Our department is rated by anaesthetic trainees as a friendly & supportive place to learn (GMC survey), and was scored “excellent” in recent quality panels for both ICU and anaesthetics. Many of our trainees choose to return as permanent staff as they value our supportive and friendly ethos.

Musgrove Park is an NHS Acute Global Digital Exemplar site and as part of this we are in the process of rolling out an Electronic Patient Management system.

What is great about Taunton? It is a medium sized county town surrounded by stunning hills that offer many leisure activities such mountain biking, climbing and walking as well as international music festivals and sporting fixtures. We have lower levels of tourism than much of the South West, but easy access to miles of glorious coastline, larger towns such as Exeter (45mins) and Bristol (1 hour), both of which have active airports. Housing prices and land are far more affordable than other parts of the South West and Somerset offers some of the best state and independent schools in the country.

We work an annualised hours system within the department which allows us flexibility to pursue the many opportunities available to ourselves and our families in this stunning part of the world.

We are seeking team playing colleagues with excellent clinical skills who will enjoy the challenges of working in a busy DGH and have enthusiasm and vision to help us develop and deliver patient centred high class services.
