About the role:

  • To provide anaesthetic services to Main Theatres, Day Surgery, Obstetrics and Intensive Care.
  • The rota is a 1:7 full shift with two registrar level middle grade doctors resident on call, and a non-resident Consultant on-call.
  • You must have a minimum of 4 years experience working as an Anaesthetist.
  • You must be comfortable working independently.
  • You must have some ability in Intensive Care.
  • You must also have some additional experience, specifically in Obstetric Anaesthesia. 
  • To have ATLS, ALS or APLS at time of applying.
  • This post requires successful Anaesthesia applicants to be able to perform the initial stabilisation and intubation of ICU patients. 
  • The contract is in line with NHS terms and conditions and will be for 12 PA’s per week. This will include one Supporting PA (SPA) and allows time for pre-op and post-op visits.
  • There is usually scope for additional work if desired as the programmed working week is not onerous..

  • There are 18 Consultants, 14 Specialty Doctors & 5 Core Trainees from Bristol, 4 ITU / Teaching Fellows and 1 F1 doctor.
  • We provide Anaesthetic services to Main Theatres, Day Surgery, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, and Acute Pain.
  • Approx 18,000 operations are performed each year with 750 Critical Care admissions (approx. 200 level 3).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • We welcome candidates who are looking for a substantive or a fixed term position.
  • You must hold Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at the time of applying for this role.
  • You must hold ATLS, ALS or APLS at time of applying.
  • You must have a minimum of 4 years experience working as an Anaesthetist.
  • You must have some ability in Intensive Care.
  • You must also have some additional experience, specifically in Obstetric Anaesthesia. 
  • For candidates who reside abroad you must have completed the necessary IELTS / OET and/ or PLAB 2 before applying to us. You must be able to satisfy the language test requirements for both GMC registration and UKVI remits.

  • Yeovil is a vibrant market town on the Somerset/Dorset border surrounded by beautiful countryside and villages. It is an attractive area to live with a wide array of leisure, cultural and sport activities. Within the highly desirable South-West of England, house prices in the area are very favourable compared to other parts of the region, and the post holder may wish to purchase a large rural property. There are excellent state and private schools nearby.
  • It is very easy to go to London for the day, as it is 2 hours away by train. It’s easy to go to the south-coast beaches, as they are 30 minutes away.
