1 or more posts to enable expansion of Consultant cover

Full time or part time

We offer a Recruitment and Retention premium equivalent to 1.5 Additional PAs

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and forward-thinking individuals to join our expanding ED Team of Consultants. This is an exciting opportunity for Emergency Medicine Consultants who are keen to get involved in delivering care on the front line, strengthening our current team of 7 Consultants, led by Dr Sriram Thillainayagam, and supported by the team of nurses, middle grades and junior doctors.

We are in the process of expanding our consultant workforce in order to be able to provide onsite ED consultant presence 8am - 10.30pm week days and 8am - 8pm on weekends and we are looking for individuals who can join us on this basis. We are looking to implement an annualised rota pattern that will offer flexibility and a good work-life balance and work environment for both staff and patients, which is of great importance to our Trust.

The post holder will be encouraged to build portfolio career that includes simulation, research, education etc.  We have generous allowance for professional development and support consultant career progression.

Applicants to this post are required to be fully registered on the GMC’s Specialist Register or be eligible within six months from the date of interview. However, if you do not meet this requirement yet but are interested in coming to work at St Peter’s, you are welcome to get in touch for more information about the Trust’s emergency medicine CESR programme.

We are a high performing acute Trust delivering well in respect of our operational performance targets and on track to deliver a significant financial surplus in 2017/18. We have exciting healthcare strategies and plans to provide leading edge models of care in North Surrey, with circa £230m turnover and 3,700 staff, across 2 sites. We are also partnered with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, working with us to meet our ambition to enable and empower clinical leaders to transform care.

Our ED operates a 24 hour service for adult and paediatric patients, seeing approximately 102,000 attendances annually. We are a Trauma Unit linked to the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at St George’s Hospital.

We pride ourselves on the high level of clinical interventions and range of services provided. St Peter’s Hospital was an early participant in the NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement’s Ambulatory Emergency Care programme in the South East Coast and continues to develop its provision of ambulatory emergency care.  The Consultant Team is friendly and enthusiastic, with a hands-on approach to patient care and excellent relationships with the Trust’s inpatient speciality teams.

We have complete engagement in the leadership and management of the department and are very well supported to pursue special interests, with many opportunities to professionally develop and lead projects. We have a proposed new Urgent Care build scheduled for 2020, which is an exciting prospect. Successful applicants will be able to make a valuable contribution to this new venture. This is a real opportunity for an individual to join a forward thinking and vibrant team who have an ethos to continually improve.
