We are seeking an Associate Specialist in Geriatric Medicine and Proactive Care of Older People Undergoing surgery (POPS) at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. The quality of the doctor with their knowledge and experience matter more to older, frail adults with complex needs. We acknowledge this and are offering an Associate Specialist post to senior experienced doctors in Geriatric Medicine. The successful applicant will work with the Surgical and Care of Elderly team to provide a POPS model of service to older surgical patients within the surgical specialities. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our dynamic, innovative and rapidly expanding POPS service delivering quality care to our older frail surgical patients.

The post-holder will demonstrate a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage older frail patients with acute surgical diagnoses. It will require the post-holder to advocate for the needs of our older population and to be part of the multi-disciplinary team that adds real value to the patient experience and outcomes whilst delivering an efficient and effective service for the Trust and wider healthcare community. The service is constantly evolving to adapt to new ideas for improving the care of older surgical patients.

The Trust provides acute and community services to 330,000 living in the west side of the county. The Trust has 3,000 staff, 674 beds and is located in Somerset which is situated between the counties of Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire.
The hospital is a busy District General Hospital situated in the south-west of England in the county town of Taunton just off the M5 motorway 37 miles north of Exeter, 48 miles south of Bristol. Taunton is 2 hours by rail from London.
