Consultant in Functional Mental Health Problems of Older People
Are you an Adult or Old age psychiatrist who wants to work within a trust who is keen to value you and your opinion in shaping its services? Are you interested in working mainly with older adults with functional mental health problems? Due to a reconfiguration of our services in older people’s mental health provision this opportunity has arisen for an Adult or Old Age consultant Psychiatrist to join The Older Peoples Mental Health team in Southampton to cover functional mental health disorders only. This particular post is working in the community locality of West Southampton which is situated in the city of Southampton, with a catchment area of approximately 20,000 Older Adults.
The post holder will work with another part time Consultant Psychiatrist as well as an experienced associate specialist who is a CCT holder in both adult and old age psychiatry with section 12 approval) providing professional support for both consultants . Assessments for cognitive disorders in the memory clinic as well as residential and nursing homes will sit separately from the duties of this post with no cross cover needed. Cross-cover will be mainly provided by East Southampton OPMH consultants. There is an established duty system and the whole team is able to undertake initial assessments of referrals, including urgent referrals and cover most none-medical emergencies.
The post holder will be based at the Western community hospital, William Macleod Way, Southampton SO16 4XE, where the community team and administration staff are co-located. The post holder will have community responsibilities and on call duties (approximately 1 in 12)
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. They must possess the MRCPsych or equivalent qualification and must also be on the GMC Specialist Register for either Adult or Old Age Psychiatry or dual CCT (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview. Applicants must also be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
