We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dedicated and professional multi-disciplinary, friendly ophthalmic team. In our department we have 5 Consultant Ophthalmologists, 8 SAS doctors, 1 ST trainee, 2 FY2 doctors as well as an Orthoptic department, LVA clinic, 1 Optometrist and a great nursing team. We have all modern equipment in theatre and clinics and just acquired a Heidelberg OCT-A.

Our clinics run at Watford Hospital as well as St Albans Hospital with theatre mostly at St Albans Hospital.

A sub-speciality interest in Medical Retina is necessary and an interest in ROP screening would be particularly welcomed.

Applicants will be encouraged to develop their subspecialty expertise and to support the development of a leading ophthalmic consultant team. The Ophthalmology service offers general ophthalmic care and a high volume cataract service as well as medical retina, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma care and paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery. Vitreoretinal services are provided by Moorfields Eye Hospital.

We have an urgent eye clinic that runs Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a Medical Retina service which is running and is busy.

The health economy in West Hertfordshire is currently undergoing major reconfiguration making this an exciting time to join us and help us fashion the delivery of ophthalmic care of the future. At the forefront of delivering high quality healthcare within the local communities our friendly department has an excellent track record in patient experience and clinical success.

This is a 10 PA appointment with a general ophthalmic emergency on-call commitment only 9-5pm. As a Consultant you will be required to participate in Consultant Appraisal and Job Plan Reviews on an annual basis and the revalidation process in line with your professional registration. The successful candidate will be expected to work across the two hospital sites (Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital).
