Wigan and Leigh Hospice is a well-established charity which has been operating since 1983. We provide a wide range of palliative care services to people with advancing life-limiting illnesses of any diagnosis and to those people important to them. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.
About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Speciality Doctor working in Palliative Medicine to join a hospice rated as Outstanding in the last CQC inspection. The successful applicant will be supported to develop their management and leadership skills, whilst providing clinical sessions in the hospice inpatient unit and community settings.
This is a key leadership role within the organisation, providing line management to other hospice-employed doctors. You will work with the Medical Director to develop and support improvements in medical care, and will be involved in a variety of quality improvement activities.
The hospice is well located, being easily accessible from Greater Manchester, Merseyside and parts of Lancashire, so this post offers a unique opportunity to anyone wishing to live in the North West of England.
The post is advertised as 8 sessions per week: applicants wishing to work 6 sessions (0.6 WTE) will be considered. The successful applicant will join the non-resident on-call rota for the hospice, working 1st or 2nd on-call weeknights and weekends with a maximum frequency of 1 in 5.

The available role
We are looking for an experienced Speciality Doctor working in Palliative Medicine to join the Hospice as Deputy Medical Director. This is a permanent role, working 8 sessions per week (0.8 WTE), but applicants wishing to work 6 sessions (0.6 WTE) will be considered. The salary for this post is £64,857 - £72,828.
