Singleton Hospital

We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Consultant Neonatologist to join our innovative and award-winning team at Singleton level 3 NICU. Singleton NICU provides a full range of neonatal critical care services for South West Wales catering to a birth population of approximately 10,000 per year.

Swansea is Wales’ second largest city offering a superb work-life balance and a rich cultural environment, ideal for family life. The city is the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, Britain’s first designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, which offers superb landscapes and ample opportunities for walking, surfing, canoeing and sailing; the magnificent “Worms Head” reaching out to sea is one of the finest views in the world. Yet all the facilities of urban life are also at hand. Excellent state and independent schools are available.

This is an exciting time to join our neonatal team; work is at an advanced stage to open a new state of the art Transitional Care and Special Care unit that will free up space for further expansion of critical care capacity. The newly refurbished unit has excellent facilities and has one of the best family accommodation facilities in Wales. We nurture a very pleasant working environment and are passionate about providing the highest standard of care. The unit has excellent benchmarked outcomes and is recognised for high quality innovative practices on antibiotic stewardship, family integrated care, neurodevelopmental follow up and predictive heart rate monitoring. The unit was the recipient of the 2017 NHS Wales Award for ‘Improving Quality Together’ methodology and was only UK unit to be invited to showcase practices at the VON Annual Quality Congress in 2017.

Singleton is a University Teaching Hospital allied to the College of Medicine at the rapidly expanding Swansea University and is a designated training unit for higher specialist training in Wales. We are consistently rated highly in GMC junior doctors’ surveys. There are excellent teaching and collaborative research opportunities with Swansea and Cardiff Universities.

You will work exclusively in Neonatology and will provide clinical leadership for the department. You will provide both non-resident and resident consultant cover, participate in the regional neonatal transport service, and contribute to teaching & training, quality improvement and research programmes.

Applicants must be on the UK’s specialist register, or be within 6 months of their award of certificate of completion of training (CCT) on the date of interview expected in October /November 2019.
