You will take a leading and influential role in a large organisation offering comprehensive acute clinical services for 750,000 people and specialised services to over a million.
We employ over 8000 staff and have a turnover of £700m.
A new medical school is being developed for the county and the first students will be educated in 2020. We are working closely with our University partners as well as the other NHS bodies to support this most important development for the county.
We are part of the Kent Surrey and Sussex AHSN and have close research links there and with the Universities. The emerging integrated care partnerships mean you will have a key role in working with the primary care networks in creating different ways of maximising our total NHS resource in the best interests of our citizens.
Our Values are central to our aspirations: caring, safe, respect and making a difference and our new Chief Medical Officer needs to embody those values and lead our medical staff to live and embrace those values too.
There has not been a better time to join our Trust. We have some outstanding examples of innovative care that are transforming our services and the experience for our patients. The successful candidate will be expected to have significant experience in Medical Management and be able to demonstrate a track record of dynamic and innovative leadership and be comfortable working with complexity. You will work closely with all Executive colleagues but in particular will enjoy joint leadership of the clinical quality and governance agenda with the Chief Nurse.
As Medical Director you will:
- provide strategic advice to the Trust Board on all medical, clinical governance and medicines management issues
- be responsible for the implementation of local, regional and national policy on medical matters
- work with the Executive team to lead the highest possible clinical and professional standards
- drive the culture of continuous improvement within the Trust to the benefit of our patients and service users
- support the hospitals, community and primary care services within the geography to operate in a collaborative, joined up way to deliver better health outcomes and better care
- be a visible, inclusive and collaborative leader, someone with the drive and energy to ensure delivery of our vision to provide great patient care
As part of the Medical leadership team, you will be involved in developing and delivering the Trust’s clinical and medical engagement strategies in accordance with agreed local and national objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.
As the Medical Director you will contribute to the recruitment, appointment and induction of medical staff and to the ongoing review of Consultant job plans. You will support enhanced appraisal across the Trust, and act as a Case Manager to address medical performance problems as required.
