Exciting opportunity to join a forward-looking Stroke Team

This is an exciting opportunity for a clinically qualified individual to join the growing stroke department at North Bristol NHS Trust. We are the second largest provider of thrombectomy care nationally and are expanding the department to meet the needs of patients. Not only are we providing state-of-the-art care from one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe, designed with patient’s privacy and dignity in mind, we’re also transforming the way we care for our patients.

Applications are invited for a Consultant to join our diverse team of stroke specialist neurologists, geriatricians and acute physicians. The job plan and clinic commitments will be adapted to be suitable to the appointee. The stroke service at North Bristol Trust is based at Southmead Hospital and provides comprehensive stroke care including a successful hyperacute service, outpatient TIA services and excellent regional neurosurgery and vascular surgery services. With local commissioners and NHS England we are working towards developing a centralised hyperacute stroke service and more comprehensive thrombectomy service for Bristol and the surrounding region, with improved community stroke rehabilitation services. Our established and growing weekday thrombectomy service already performs second highest number of procedures annually of any centre in England. There is an active and growing stroke research community in the region, including collaborations with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.

Bristol is a thriving and culturally rich city with excellent transport links. The Sunday Times named Bristol the UK’s best place to live in 2017, with great places to eat and drink, “all the culture you could wish for” and access to seaside and scenery. Bristol was the first Cycling City in Britain and there are excellent cycling routes and facilities. Southmead Hospital is based in the North of the city, only 15 es from the city centre and has a great array of shops, theatres and places to eat, drink and socialise. As a place to work, our Trust couldn’t be better placed to boost your career with its teaching status and strong links with the University of Bristol and University of the West of England.
