Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist
This is a new post in one of the largest children’s Cardiac units in the UK. The applicant will join the existing consultants to make a team of 11 Consultant Paediatric Cardiologists and 4 Cardiac Surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The post is designed to supplement the existing clinical workload of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital which provides tertiary Cardiology services for the West Midlands as well as supra-regional care for specialist areas in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, and will include regular outreach clinics. The department sees 13,000 outpatients, performs over 10,500 Echocardiograms, 600 Cardiac Catheters and 400 Open Heart Surgery cases per year.
The post is to support paediatric cardiology services in the region and will involve supporting and developing MRI, cross-sectional cardiac imaging and non-invasive cardiology. The successful applicant will not be expected to provide invasive cover for the department, and involves clinics at the base unit and outreach clinics in the region along with weekly MRI sessions.
The successful candidate needs to be on the GMC specialist register for paediatric cardiology (or be eligible for entry), or recognised equivalent if outside the UK. The candidate will have a wide-range of clinical experience in paediatric cardiology, subspecialty training in cardiac MRI, publications in the specialist field and a minimum of Level 2 accreditation.
