Cardiovascular Clinical Fellowships

UCL and the Wellington Hospital are recruiting to a new Fellowship scheme in which Fellows study for a PhD in the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science while working at the UK's largest private hospital providing specialist complex care.

Fellows register part-time and the Wellington pays annual fees which will include a generous allowance for consumables and activities. In return the Fellows are employed directly by the Hospital, working the equivalent of 30 hours per week, which will include a combination of weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. Salary will be £45,000 per annum.

Clinically based at the Wellington Hospital in St John's Wood London, part of HCA Healthcare UK, these Fellows will commence a programme for clinically qualified individuals who wish to undertake a period of basic and/or clinical cardiovascular research prior to continuation of specialist training.  This is a tremendous opportunity to jointly develop a research career while working between two prestigious organisations.

Fellows will select a project and a supervisor from across the range of disciplines in the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science: pre-clinical and fundamental science, translational science, imaging, engineering, clinical science, data science, experimental medicine and population science projects are all offered. The Institute also hosts the MRC Unit of Lifelong Health and Ageing, the Hatter Cardiovascular Centre, as well as the British Heart Foundation UCL Research Accelerator (joint with UCL Institute of Health Informatics).

Fellows will have common activities such as journal clubs, relevant training and development and will undertake UCL's Arena One programme to help them deliver teaching on the Institute's Cardiometabolic Patient Pathway, as well as being part of the Institute's other networks of postgraduate students and staff.

Applicants must be medically qualified and be GMC registered. They must also meet UCL’s PhD student entrance requirements which can be found Those applicants who meet both standards will be invited to a joint interview.

Applicants should apply as below and should be aware that relevant data will be shared between HCA and UCL as part of the recruitment process.

Material information relating to the scheme is available by clicking the apply button.

The scheme is open to candidates from UK/EU and overseas. HCA will request a certificate of sponsorship for successful candidates from overseas. The fee payable to UCL by HCA is set at the UK/EU limit and any individual appointed by HCA on a certificate of sponsorship is personally liable for the difference between UK/EU fees and overseas fees.
