Surgical and Critical Care – Royal Darwin Hospital
Fixed term vacancy available for 12 months

The Royal Darwin Hospital is the major teaching hospital with 370 beds in the NT and receives referrals from the entire Northern Territory as well as northern Western Australia with a catchment population of over 250,000.

Flinders University has a 4 year post graduate medical school based in the NT and Royal Darwin Hospital also receives students from James Cook University. The hospital is integrated with the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC)

Darwin offers a unique experience with complex pathology not seen elsewhere in Australia.

RDH has a busy emergency department with many acute presentations, including a high burden of trauma. There is a full range of surgical specialties apart from cardiac surgery, neurosurgery; a comprehensive cancer service, with many head and neck cancer cases doing combined work with the Plastics Unit, as well as some complex ortho-plastics caseload.  The Burns unit is run through General Surgery, but welcomes input from Plastic Surgery.

RDH currently has a service comprising one Plastic Surgery Consultant (part time), a Fellow and one unaccredited Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery trainee, supported by a Resident medical officer. 

This position will initially be 1.0 FTE appointment (38 hrs per week), with shared on-call roster and opportunities to develop private practice. The appointee should have FRACS or equivalent in Plastic Surgery.
