This post requires a consultant trained in Paediatric Ophthalmology that is able to lead the paediatric Ophthalmology service in the absence of the substantive consultant. The timetable will include a variety of outpatient clinic sessions as well as theatre sessions and on call. The department currently has 7 substantive consultants.

Herefordshire is an agricultural border county of outstanding natural beauty with agriculture being the main industry especially growing hops and cider apples. There is also some light industry. Hereford is a Cathedral city with a strong and vibrant tradition in the Arts, particularly music. It is surrounded by a number of small market towns, many of which have community hospitals where various clinics are held by staff from Hereford hospitals.

The Victoria Eye Unit is a tight-knit and friendly department based at Wye Valley NHS Trust, serving the county of Herefordshire and surrounding area. We have the largest catchment area of any department within the Trust and serve a population of approximately 250,000.

The department is actively focused on continuous improvement and has well equipped clinics, with fully networked imaging facilities. A comprehensive eye casualty service is provided, and a wide range of ophthalmic surgery is carried out.

The Munro Quinlan Ophthalmic Library is very well stocked, containing all major journals, a large range of ophthalmic texts and is within the general library area having access to all IT facilities.
