Applications are invited for two replacement, full-time (10PA) posts of Consultant in Gastrointestinal and/or Hepatopancreatobiliary Pathology.

These posts should be attractive to either experienced Consultants with a demonstrable special interest in Gastrointestinal (GI) and/or Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Pathology, or to pathologists who would like to develop their careers in this specialty while working in a friendly and stimulating environment. Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) was formed in 2013 as a multidisciplinary NHS pathology service, jointly owned by the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals and University Hospital Aintree, delivering a high quality service to the two Trusts, community services in Liverpool and specialist services to the wider region. The GI & HPB Pathology team receives the full range of complex/tertiary and routine material, including upper GI, lower GI/anal and HPB (with the exception of liver explants) resections, and reports the pathology for both the Liverpool & Wirral and the Merseyside & North Cheshire BCSP hubs. The Department is scheduled to move into a new laboratory building in 2020.

The posts will be based at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, with the possibility of cross-site working to support MDT meetings. The Department provides undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and there are close links with academic pathology in the University of Liverpool. Any candidate who is unable to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.

Liverpool is a friendly, vibrant city with a wide range of cultural activities and easy access to North Wales and the Lake District. A new £450 million hospital, including a laboratory block, is being built adjacent to the current Royal Liverpool University Hospital and will open in 2020.
