An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Hazel Pearse Head of Clinical Service

Hello, my name is Dr Hazel Pearse and I am the Head of Clinical Service for Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care at Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Medical Oncology Service at Mid Yorkshire has undergone significant change in the last ten years with a shift in service provision from having outpatient visiting services from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to a resident non-surgical oncology model with inpatient services and resident medical oncology team. Acute oncology patients are seen in a dedicated ambulatory unit on ward 20B by the acute oncology CNS team with Advanced Clinical Practitioner support. There is CMT and FY2 support for in-patients.

Mid Yorkshire provides a full range of secondary care cancer services and is located the cancer centres of Leeds and Sheffield. Historically there is close collaborative working with Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Videoconferencing of multidisciplinary meetings with the cancer centre at Leeds are in place for upper gastrointestinal cancer, urological cancer and haematology malignancies.

The Medical Oncology Department at Mid Yorkshire offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional in our exciting specialist field. The successful team member will also benefit from close working with our visiting clinical oncology colleagues from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Experience will be available in Breast and Upper GI and Lower GI oncology, Gynaecology, Urology, CUP, Lung along with dedicated Acute Oncology sessions covering ward and day-case chemotherapy unit patients.

Applicants will be eligible for the post of Specialty Doctor as described in Terms and Conditions of Service for Specialty Doctors – England (2008) and will be remunerated as appropriate on the salary scale MC46 (£39,060 to £72,840) per annum.

For further information please contact in the first instance Dr Jay Naik, Consultant on telephone: (01924) 542486.

For any queries please contact Medical Staffing on (01924) 543642.
