Our Purpose

The Canterbury District Health Board systematically plan, fund and deliver care to almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. The Canterbury Health System is a world leader in the delivery of integrated health care. Our main focus is placing people (staff and patients alike) at the centre of everything we do.

The Team

Older Persons Health (OPH) is well regarded for its high quality of care and comprehensive range of services including rehabilitation, sub-acute medical care, stroke services, orthomedicine, surgical medicine and community geriatric medicine.

We provide care for the older people in Canterbury (population 87,000) and the West Coast. Our Christchurch inpatient services are based at Burwood Hospital in a new, purpose built facility with Community services based at Princess Margaret Hospital and a number of satellite sites.

The Role

We are looking for full-time and part-time, both short term, and long term Geriatricians to join our team of committed and dedicated clinicians. Experience and interest in community medicine would be desirable along with an interest in providing support to regional areas, including the West Coast.

We work within well-resourced interdisciplinary teams and alongside supportive clinical leaders and managers. The service prides itself on our focus on patient-centred care and we provide an excellent training experience to medical students and junior doctors. We support and encourage involvement in clinical research, quality improvement and development of innovative ways of working.

You must be eligible for Vocational Registration (NZMC) in Internal Medicine with postgraduate training in geriatric medicine.
