An exciting opportunity has become available in the Medical & Digital Transformation Directorate at NHS England & NHS Improvement for a Chair of the Clinical Senate in London. As the Clinical Senate Chair, the postholder will lead the strategic and operational development and delivery of safe, sustainable, high quality and cost effective care, by providing independent, strategic advice to commissioners, supporting them to make the best decisions about health care for the populations they serve. 

The postholder will also have overall responsibility for clinical leadership, engagement and influence in Senate activities. One key aspect of the job will be to ensure that independent clinical advice is provided to the statutory commissioners as part of their regulatory process for service change proposals which will provide evidence to them in demonstrating compliance with the ‘Five Tests’ for Service Change as they reconfigure services. 

Providing independent strategic clinical advice and leadership to the London health and care system, the post holder will also play a key role in commissioning and delivery of cost effective and clinically robust services through the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan. 

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five year’s experience in a senior clinical or professional role and will be a member of the relevant regulatory body. The post holder will be an excellent communicator and have a track record of working with senior NHS and social care stakeholders as well as with elected members. He/she will have experience of leading on large scale transformational programmes with clear evidence of using personal attributes in influencing and negotiating in sensitive and political situations.

The post holder will be responsible to the Deputy Director of Clinical Networks and Senate in London and professionally accountable to the London Regional Medical Director.
