Applications are invited for this permanent Consultant post in Palliative Medicine. The successful applicant will be employed by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT). The post holder will work alongside three other Palliative Medicine Consultants and be part of ELHT’s Specialist Palliative Care Team. They will work collaboratively with the medical team and senior management at East Lancashire Hospice.

This post provides medical support and leadership within the hospice and community settings. It is based at East Lancashire Hospice and Accrington Victoria Hospital and includes sessions in the hospice, the communities of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley and responsibilities as part of the specialist palliative care team at ELHT.

East Lancashire Hospice is a purpose-built hospice serving the population of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.  The 10 bedded inpatient unit admits patients for symptom control, assessment, complex case management and care in the last days of life. There is a well-established Support and Wellbeing Service. The hospice employs the community specialist palliative CNSs for Blackburn with Darwen.  In 2016 it has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The specialist palliative care team at ELHT includes three Palliative Medicine Consultants, Specialist Palliative Care CNSs, Palliative Care Lead Nurse and End of Life Care Facilitator.  The team works across the acute hospitals of ELHT and in the community of East Lancashire CCG, which includes Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

There is an attractive job plan, typically 10 PA’s (7.5 PA’s for direct clinical care and 2.5 PA’s for supporting professional activity).
