This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly enthusiastic and motivated team of 14 Intensive Care consultants, (12 WTE rota) delivering the highest quality intensive care to a large population of secondary and tertiary patients. The post holder will be responsible for supervising patient management within the General and Neurosurgical Critical Care Units. There are currently 26 staffed beds (nominally 15 level 3 beds and 11 level 2 beds) in a purpose built, well equipped unit that opened in September 2008, serving a teaching hospital with 900 inpatient beds. The unit admits 1500 patients per annum, we are the regional major trauma centre, and provide tertiary care in a broad range of specialties for the South West Peninsula, we have a very interesting and varied caseload. We deliver consistently good patient outcomes and have a vigorous clinical governance structure. The post holder will also be expected to be actively involved in the administrative, teaching, continuing medical education and audit activities of the department. Involvement in research will be encouraged and the post holder will have a timetabled commitment to undergraduate teaching for the Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry. We have rapidly developing links to several departments in Plymouth University and an expanding research portfolio. This post can be combined with a specialty interest in anaesthesia, medicine or emergency medicine, possibilities for working in another specialty should be discussed with the clinical director.
