South West Thames Regional Genetics Service 

St George's University Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest hospital and community health service providers in the UK. It is co-located with St George’s University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. The South West Thames Regional Genetics Service is based at St George’s Hospital in Tooting and provides an integrated clinical and genetic laboratory service to a population of more than 3.5 million across South West London, Surrey and Sussex.   

Applications are invited for a consultant post in the department of Clinical Genetics. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for clinical genetics and genomic medicine.   

There is also an opportunity for a Fixed Term 2 year, less than full time (8PA) Cancer Genetics Consultant in the department of Clinical Genetics. The post holder will play a crucial role in the strategic development and implementation of novel clinical pathways, including mainstreaming and integration with oncology services through the Genomics Tumour Advisory Board (GTAB) within the innovative cancer genetics team. Alongside other consultants in the cancer genetics team, they will be responsible for cancer genetics referrals to clinics at St. George’s University Hospital and around the SW Thames region.

The service is staffed by a team of experienced medical, genetic counselling and administrative staff and spans general adult and paediatric clinics, general cancer and specialist cancer clinics, cardiac, prenatal and neurogenetic clinics.  The service also has clinical and research interests in lymphoedema, tuberous sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, syndromic cancer, and tertiary paediatric cancer and multidisciplinary genetic endocrine cancer clinics. Staff work closely with all the disciplines involved in the care of these patients 

We are keen to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and dynamic candidate who will join an innovative and forward thinking clinical service which benefits from close links to extensive research groups. Clinics will be held at St George’s Hospital and at various locations throughout Surrey and Sussex. Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview. Interview date: 5th September 2019.
