Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Echocardiography
This is a unique opportunity for an established or newly certified cardiologist to develop and lead the echo department at University Hospitals Bristol.
Bristol is repeatedly voted one of the best places to live in the UK, with its vibrant arts, restaurant and cultural scene and its independent community spirit. It is the gateway to the holiday areas of Devon, Cornwall and South Wales and within commuting distance of London with excellent rail links.
The Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) was built in 2009 as a state of the art facility for cardiothoracic services. It is part of University Hospitals Bristol Trust, recognised as one of the highest-performing acute trusts in the country and recently rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Our echo department has undergone significant changes in the last few years. Under new management we have upgraded our echo machine, secured additional machines and have been granted more than £350,000 to build a new state-of-the-art facility dedicated to echo within the BHI. We have two new Band 8a posts in stress echo and education and are now in a position to recruit a cardiologist to lead the department, develop the service and bring it in line with other leading UK echo departments.
The successful applicant will be fully trained in clinical cardiology and all modes of echocardiography with appropriate certification. They will be part of a team of 12 cardiologists and participate in a non-invasive cardiology on call rota. Candidates with a strong track record of leadership and service development will have an advantage.
