To provide clinical leadership for a new Perinatal Mental Health community service in Cambridgeshire.

The consultant will have primary responsibility for the north of the county. The service will be staffed by Clinical Nurse Specialists in Perinatal Mental Health as well as Psychologists and other allied professionals.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved at the outset of a fledgling service seeking to provide excellent care for women and, by extension, their babies (and partners) during pregnancy and in the first year post-partum.

This post would suit creative clinicians looking for their first experience in Perinatal Psychiatry at Consultant level or those experienced in the field. The birth rate for Cambridgeshire is approximately 13,000 births a year and CPFT has excellent and proactive working relationships with the relevant maternity units at the two acute trusts covering the county. The successful appointee will be expected to work collaboratively with, amongst others, General Adult, Liaison and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, as well as Obstetric colleagues in developing streamlined pathways in pursuit of care that is safe, high quality and has patient experience as a priority.

In addition to direct clinical care, the service is expected to be active in teaching/training – including but not limited to medical students, psychiatry trainees, midwives, health visitors, social workers and obstetricians - staff support, management activities and service development. It is envisaged that the new service will be developed in line with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidance and aim for excellence as benchmarked by the Quality Network for Perinatal Mental Health Services of the College Centre for Quality Improvement.

Depending on the interests of the post-holder, there are excellent opportunities to be involved in management, service development and under/post-graduate teaching. There are excellent links with the academic department and the potential for consultants to be involved in research. There is an excellent CPD programme and opportunities for professional development.
