To lead on an investment of £1.8 Million in translational cancer research in North Wales

Expressions of interest are invited for the above permanent clinical academic post working in the North West Cancer Research (NWCR) Institute, part of the School of Medical Sciences, Bangor University (BU) and in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), in North Wales. Duties will include laboratory-based cancer research and clinical cancer care.

We would welcome expressions of interest from potential applicants with an excellent track record in both laboratory-based cancer research and clinical practice, including pathology, surgical oncology (urology, general surgery) or non-surgical oncology such as haematology, oncology, respiratory medicine and gastroenterology.

We are able to offer an attractive salary (negotiable). On appointment the post holder will lead on the recruitment of a Clinical Senior Lecturer (permanent post), Postdoctoral Lab Manager (initially funded for 5 years) and 2 PhD students. The research component will be funded by NWCR for the first 5 years, whilst both Bangor University and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have committed to fund both the Clinical Chair and Clinical Senior Lecturer posts beyond the first 5 years as permanent posts.

The NWCR Institute is housed in well-equipped laboratories. NWCR Institute group leaders were part of a REF2014 submission ranked 3rd out of 94 institutions for research output. Group leaders at the NWCR Institute are part of the NWCR Centre-University of Liverpool, the Wales Cancer Research Centre and the Wales Gene Park, providing opportunities for collaboration with other cancer research centres.

This position will be a Joint Appointment between BU and BCUHB and as such the successful candidate will be selected through a joint recruitment and selection approach and will be required to work in conjunction with the terms and conditions set out by both employers. It is envisaged that clinical and research duties will be allocated in roughly equal parts (negotiable).
