Job Details
We are excited to be looking for a new colleague to join our expanding team of substantive consultants based in North Wales. We are currently seeking a Medical Oncologist Consultant with an interest in colorectal and urological cancers to strengthen our workforce so that we can provide the best care to the people of north Wales. The Cancer Division is going through a process of change and is keen to embrace new models of working and innovation. We have recently welcomed Physician's Associates and increasing numbers of Advanced Nurse Practitioners following successful business case applications. We have also recruited our first Consultant Radiographer and we are exploring various technologies to support the service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd. There is an on-call element to the role and you will be required to take part on a 1 in 5 basis. We encourage and welcome applications from colleagues who specialise in other tumour sites and will work to create a job plan that is beneficial to the individual and the department.
Key tasks:
To provide specialist oncological services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate oncology subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.
To work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless cancer care for all patients.
To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient journey.
To liaise with colleagues in Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for oncology patients.
To develop a site specialist and research interest. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies.
To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence based medicine.
To participate in audit and teaching and to have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

- MB ChB or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Inclusion on Specialist Register or, if in training, eligible for inclusion on the register within 6 months

Special Knowledge / Abilities / and / or experience

- Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR level
- Equivalent training accepted by Royal College / GMC for Specialist Registrar
- CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
