Bangor Hospital is sandwiched between Snowdonia National Park and the stunning coastline of Anglesey. The area is well known for its beautiful beaches, lakes and mountains and is becoming popular for those seeking an outdoor lifestyle. If you like outdoor pursuits, hill-walking, rock-climbing, kite-surfing and sailing, then all of these are on your doorstep, yet we are only a one hour's drive to Chester / M6 and three hours to London by direct train.

The 6 month post will be available from the 5th February 2025 until 5th August 2025 and are based in a well-supported environment within a friendly rural DGH, covering a rural area the size of Greater London. There are unique challenges in delivering high quality health care to this diverse population and we are seeking a highly motivated team player to come and join a dynamic team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

This post will operate at the Senior clinical fellow level, contributing to the medical on-call rota, currently a 1 in 11 attracting a 1B banding ( 40% ) pay supplement.

To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence to practise.

These posts do not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and are not recognised for training but appropriate educational supervision will be provided.

In addition to ward cover, successful applicants will have access to outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

The advertised post is for a fixed term Senior Clinical Fellow covering Respiratory and General medicine at a level equivalent to a Specialty Trainee.

The pay scale for the post is based upon the fixed term Specialty Registrar (MN37) scale is £40,397 to £63,518 for basic 40 hour week contract ( Excluding on-call supplement ) : The exact point of scale is determined upon verification of previous NHS service. The post is subject to the Wales NHS Hospital Medical and Dental Staff terms and conditions of service.

Job responsibilities

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

2.1 Your Consultant supervisor would be the Lead Clinician in Respiratory.

2.2 You would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate as determined by the consultant on your team and provide a high quality

service to the local population including an emergency on-call commitment.

2.3 The current expected on call Rota is 1:11. You would be resident on call. At time of writing Consultant Physicians are not resident on call overnight. You will be required to cover for your colleagues' periods of leave.

2.4 To assist with nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.

2.5 To contribute, to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives.

2.6 You will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

2.7 Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service you will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters.

2.8 You will be expected to pursue local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCP Part 1
  • The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Full Registration with the GMC.

Clinical Knowledge & Skills
Essential

  • The applicant must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major principles of the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2006).
  • Clinical Knowledge and skills expected of a doctor at the end of CMT training - assessed at interview.
  • Current ALS certification.

Desirable

  • Evidence of audits / presentations / publications in area of interest.

Experience
Essential

  • Minimum 2 years experience at SHO grade in General Medicine.

Language & Communication Skills
Essential

  • The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in paragraph 22 of the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2006)

Personal Qualities
Essential

  • Enthusiasm and good team working skills
  • Initiative and the ability to deal effectively with pressure and/or challenge.
  • An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity.

Desirable

  • Welsh speaker or a desire to learn, plus an interest in Welsh culture.
