Job Details
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic doctors who are interested in taking up long term career in General and Colorectal Surgery. The appointee will be offered a rotation to various specialties of General and Colorectal Surgery. For the appointee who would like to continue the job, it could be extended to another 12 months.
Ysbyty Gwynedd has HEIW (Health Education in Wales) recognised training programme at all levels of surgical training. Even though this post is not a part of National Core Training scheme, the appointee will be offered similar training opportunities at CT level. Over the past few years, fellows have used these jobs to enhance their CV and been successfully recruited via National Training Programme.
The appointee will be encouraged to attend MRCS teaching programme, participate in research and audit. They will be also supported to attend basic surgical courses, eg. ATLS/basics surgical skills/Crisp, those are essential for completion of core training programme. Each fellow will be allocated an assigned educational and clinical supervisor to supervise their training needs. They will also have access to the College tutor for long term career advice.
This programme is also suitable for non-UK graduates who hold GMC registration.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be accountable to a team of two Consultant Surgeons and will have duties as deemed appropriate by the consultant.
The daily smooth running of the ward will be the responsibility of the fellows in general surgery.
The post holder will be expected to take part in the on call rota which is currently a 1 in 10.
Provision with colleagues of a service in the specialty to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department.
Be involved in Multi-disciplinary team and other clinical meetings
Participation in carrying out teaching duties, clinical audit and research as required to the extent that clinical duties allow.
The post holder will be responsible to the Clinical Director (Surgery) through the Lead Clinicians in General Surgery. Day to day responsibility will be to the Consultant to whom the fellow is attached at the particular time
