Job Details
We have an exciting opportunity available to appoint to our final vacant Histopathology Consultant post, this is a substantive appointment, based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs). There is no on call commitment.We could love you to consider joining our Pathology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. You will form part of the Trust's pathology department and will be a part of the current team of 7 consultants providing a comprehensive Cellular Pathology service. The department provides a comprehensive range of services for our resident population of approximately 600,00 residing mainly in East and North Hertfordshire and extends to the borders of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, West Hertfordshire and Essex. Please note: That as part of the selection process you will be required to undertake a psychometric assessment which is mandatory There are no right or wrong answers and the aim of this is to give the panel members more information about the strengths and possible derailers of candidates preferred behaviors. Main duties of the job
- To participate in surgical cutup, surgical reporting, cytology reporting, thus ensuring the delivery of a high-quality histopathology, cytopathology service.
- To advise and be available for consultation on clinical matters both generally and on an individual patient basis with clinical colleagues in the hospital, general practitioners, and Trust staff.
- To participate in the training of the Clinical fellows.
- To be responsible for interpretation of results and advise on appropriate further investigations where necessary.
- To participate in the management of the service and work with laboratory staff and pathology management team to set clinical priorities and resolve operational problems.
- To lead laboratory staff on clinical matters. The Consultant Pathologist will instruct and work with laboratory staff in the day-to-day handling of cases.
- To participate in audit, accreditation, and quality assurance schemes.
- To work with colleagues on setting the strategic clinical direction and development of the pathology service and to participate in administrative duties as required.
- To advise and discuss with the pathology management team changes in methodologies or introduction of new equipment, consumables, or new tests.
- To collaborate with clinical colleagues in the development of new methods of treatment.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full and specialist registration (and a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- FRCPATH or qualification of an equivalent level

- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
Previous Experience
Essential
- Broad range of experience in
- Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Skills
Essential
- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.

- Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
