The advertised post is for a consultant in Interventional Radiology at the Royal London Hospital Barts Health NHS Trust. You will join a team of 63 consultant radiologists across Barts and the Royal London Hospitals to help deliver the service and to support an active training program. You will join a dynamic and evolving workforce in an organisation with a dedicated interventional radiology suite which is amongst the largest in the UK with significant plans for expansion.

The service is made up of 9 substantive consultant interventional radiologists, 8 dedicated interventional radiographers and 45 nurses who support interventional radiology lists as well as 6 health care assistants. The service has five dedicated interventional radiology rooms and a hybrid room in the cardiothoracic surgical suite.

The successful candidate will be responsible for sharing duties related to interventional radiology across Barts Health NHS Trust

Main duties of the job

There is an East London Vascular Network with 14 vascular surgeons. The Trust is a recognised national and regional referral center for hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, upper GI and colorectal cancer, urology, renal medicine, oncology and cardiothoracic surgery.

The helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) is part of the busy major trauma center based at the Royal London Hospital, often requiring interventional services. There are currently 9 radiologists providing interventional radiology services and 5 providing interventional neuroradiology services.

The successful applicant would be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest within interventional radiology, as well as help to provide a core service. The appointee will have general duties in radiology.

The post holder will work in the departments of Imaging at St. Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospital.

They will be required to adhere to the Trust's policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.

Qualifications:
Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • CCST (or within 6 months of date of interview) or on specialist register

Desirable

  • MRCP/MRCS

Knowledge
Essential

  • Extensive experience in Fellowship
  • Logbook of procedures with complication rates
  • Ability to perform complex vascular and non-vascular procedures
  • Completion of higher specialist training in Interventional radiology.

Desirable

  • Fellowship or consultant experience in Interventional radiology
  • Ability to report general and vascular CT and MRI including trauma.

Clinical Governance
Essential

  • Knowledge of NHS complaints system
  • Record of incident and near miss reporting

Desirable

  • Training in root cause analysis
  • Participation in incident investigation
  • Simulated patient safety training

Training Expected
