Job Details

This post is for a locum medical oncology consultant with a sub specialist interest in urological cancers including renal cancers. This is a 10 session post and working hours are flexible to accommodate candidates who may have caring duties. There are opportunities to develop off site working as needed to allow remote chemotherapy prescribing.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be an integral member of the urology team, currently including four clinical oncologists, three medical oncologists, 3 specialist nurses, non-medical prescribing pharmacist and specialty doctor/registrar on rotation. The team is also supported by research nurses. The post holder will provide systemic therapy for the population of South West Wales, covering both renal and non-renal urology (prostate and bladder). This practice will be shared with clinical and medical oncologist colleagues.

There will be 1 MDT on a Friday for the Hywel Dda population. This can be attended via MS Teams and the MDT has clinical oncologist representation for radiotherapy decisions.

Clinics will be held in either West Wales General Hospital or in Singleton Hospital, with option of some virtual working.

The postholder will see in the region of 250 new patients/year and in the region of 800 FU appointments s/year

Qualifications
Essential

  • Registered with the GMC
  • Licensed to Practice
  • MRCP (UK)

Desirable

  • Higher Degree MD/PHD

Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi disciplinary basis with all levels of staff
  • Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
  • Values partnerships with other agencies
  • Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
  • Experience of research in oncology
  • Prior experience of treating urological cancers

Desirable

  • Experience of setting up clinical trials
