Job Details
SPECIALIST REGISTRARS
Inpatient gastroenterology and hepatology
We have 4 specialist registrars based On the inpatient gastroenterology wards at Northwick Park Hospital, based on Frederick Salmon South ward, and central Middlesex hospital, based on ward G4.
Intestinal rehabilitation unit
We have one specialist registrar and one clinical fellow based on this ward.
IBD unit
We have one specialist registrar, usually a Deanery trainee, rotating through the year.
Physiology
We have one specialist registrar, usually a Deanery trainee, rotating through the year.
St Marks Surgery
We have a resident Surgical Officer (RSO) contactable via switchboard, or mobile number available on the rota which should be sent out monthly. The RSO reviews all IBD patients for St Marks related operations.
Fellows: There are multiple fellows who work on the wards/endoscopy/research units.
Acute Medicine: Our registrars will rotate through acute medicine
Main duties of the job
The post will involve delivering clinical services across the London North West Healthcare NHS Trust and sessions may be worked on any of the Trust's hospital sites, ie Northwick Park Hospital, St Mark's Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital.
The appointee will be part of the acute gastroenterology service and will join the other Deanery appointed, and three other Trust appointed registrars, working in the service. The registrars are supported by a team of 4 SHOs and 3 FY1 doctors.
The post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor and research opportunities are available and actively encouraged. The Trust does have a strong track record of LED post holders going on to obtain a training number. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the service but, depending on the interests and skills of the successful candidate, appropriate specialist training can be provided in hepatology, nutrition, endoscopy etc.

Job responsibilities
Duties will include -
- Responsibility for in-patient ward rounds leading ward rounds, (with consultant supervision),
- Supporting the two Deanery registrars allocated to Northwick Park ward duties.
- Seeing ward specialist gastroenterology referrals and holding the referral bleep.
- Out-patient clinics (with consultant supervision).
- Endoscopy lists are allocated as possible, and we aim to provide one list per week.
- A training program will be organised to ensure that the appointees own continuing medical education needs are met, including engagement with the NHS Eportfolio.
- Ensure appropriate professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Expected to participate in the activities of the Department involving audit, clinical governance, and teaching.
- Expected to work alongside colleagues and managers throughout the Directorate and the Trust to provide an efficient Gastroenterology service.
- Will be expected to liaise with GPs and other professional groups who use the Gastroenterology service.
